MUSIC | The XX
The xx have taken over the lone star state these past couple of days - 5 sold out shows, a viral Valentine’s day cover and its just the beginning for the trio who have embarked on their tour ‘Night + Day’ to promote Coexsist their sophomore album . We caught up with them at their Feb 13 show at the Grenada this past Wednesday, and they put on quite a show.
With a chilly start, we arrived just in time to catch Austra’s set, which sounded great - for a crowd that gave off lukewarm vibe in the beginning, I’m pretty sure Austra left with some new fans after their performance.
The xx came on promptly at 10:25 and began their set with smash single ‘Angels’, a euphoric yet electric calm spread throughout the venue, and the lush baptism of light and sound began. Romy, Oliver and Jaime were quite surprised by how enthusiastic the crowd was, but how could they not be excited, the mixture of visuals - bright liquid lights keeping in the aesthetic of their album art and music videos, and their music created such a intense and atmospheric experience. Yes, people were filming and taking pictures but the XX put on a show that drew you in and made you focus on the moment, on the song and the crowd - time seemed to slow down and for their entire set you embarking on a real, genuine almost spiritual experience and Romy, Oliver and Jaime were their to guide your way.
