LFW | John Rochas AW 13
The tent was packed to the last row and for good reason: the new John Rocha’s collection. Hotly anticipated after his beautiful show last season, once again Rocha gave us stunning pieces to brighten up our AW13 wardrobe.
Inspired by the bright winter landscapes of Wicklow and the colour palettes in Gary Hume’s work, we saw the more traditional black and shades of green. However, Rocha continued to explore his love for candy and sugar pinks as well as corals, yellows and gorgeous reds (similar to SS13 ). Seeing such bright, cheerful colours made the thought of dull winter days a lot more bearable.
The hair and make-up gave the collection a dreamy yet eerie feel, which was the perfect compliment to the beautiful collection.
There was something magical about this particular collection. We saw beautiful over-sized coats and dresses skimming the female form, in the entire colour palette of the collection, and in an array of fabrics. There were pantsuits and some stunning capes with feather-like skirts. As much as this season felt very much like a continuation of SS13, this season was less romantic while maintaining a sense of whimsy and putting the audience into an almost dream-like state. The slightly out-of-time, whimsical mood of the overall collection is becoming Rocha’s signature, a departure from his much darker previous collections. And what a beautiful signature it is when it makes us look forward to the days getting colder and shorter.
